Saturday Spotlight

Today's author is Shel Silverstein.


1. He was born September 25, 1930 in Chicago and died May 10, 1999 in Key West.
2. He is known as an American poet, singer-songwriter, musician, composer, cartoonist, screenwriter, and author of children's books.
3. He had an alter ego, Uncle Shelby.
4. He never studied poetry before developing his own unique style.
5. He studied briefly at Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
6. He wrote the grammy-winning music and lyrics for "A Boy Named Sue" (Johnny Cash).
7. His many books include Where the Sidewalk Ends, The Giving Tree and A Light in the Attic.
