1. She was born April 22, 1943, in South River, New Jersey.
2. She began her career writing under the pen name Steffie Hall.
3. She didn't begin writing novels until she was in her thirties.
4. She took lessons in improv acting to learn how to write dialogue between characters.
5. She attempted to write the Great American Novel for years but never found a publisher.
6. She then turned to the romance genre and finally sold a manuscript; it became the novel Hero at Large (1987).
7. Her first romantic adventure, One for the Money, introduced her lead character, bounty hunter Stephanie Plum; the Stephanie Plum series currently has 15 books.
