She was born in 1963 in Connecticut. She is the daughter of an Air Force officer. She earned her MFA from NYU. She began her career as a children's television writer for Nickelodeon. She later wrote a best selling children's book series called The Underland Chronicles.
In 2008, she released her first book of a new trilogy, The Hunger Games. The second in the series, Catching Fire, followed in 2009. The third book in the trilogy is due out this month: Mockingjay.
She was voted one of the most influential people of 2010 by Time magazine.
