Today's author is Ayn Rand.












Quick Facts:

1. She was born pn February 2, 1905 in Saint Petersburg, Russia and died at age 77 on March 6, 1982 in New York City.
2. She attended the University of Petrograd.
3. She was granted a visa to visit American relatives and arrived in the US in 1926 at age 21.
4. She moved to Hollywood shortly after immigrating in order to be a screenwriter.
5. She soon earned a place as an extra in the film The King of Kings, where she met her future husband Frank O'Connor.
6. Her first novel, We the Living, was published in 1936.


7. Her first major success was with The Fountainhead (1943), a romantic, philosophical drama.


8. Her 1100-page international bestseller, Atlas Shrugged (1957), marked the turning point in her life as she then ended her career as a writer in order to be a philosopher.


9. She founded the philosophy of Objectivism.
10. The Ayn Rand Institute: The Center for the Advancement of Objectivism is located in Irvine, California.
